Ade Osijo, a 59-year-old ex-journalist, has pleaded with people and organizations to help him gather money for an eye operation.
Osijo has been suffering with bilateral weak eyesight and vision loss in his right eye for 17 years, according to a medical report created by a Lagos eye facility.
The left eye also started experiencing issues, according to the report dated May 17, 2023, about nine months ago.
“Following a detailed ocular examination, the prognosis of right blind and left retinal detachment was made.
“He was advised to have left retinal detachment repair surgery with moderate prognosis and the right eye was not considered due to no visual prognosis,” the report read.
The hospital estimated that the eye surgery would cost N1.125 million.
Osijo told The Spectator that despite his best efforts, he was unable to raise the money required for the surgery, which was already scheduled to take place between May 22 and 27. As a result, he turned to making a fundraising plea.
“Owing to the huge cost and expediency, I hereby appeal to any organisation or individual that can come to my aid.
“Due to the time-sensitive nature of this eye problem which was diagnosed in June last year, I had been reluctant to solicit funds because of the amount involved, N1.125m,” he said.
Donations for Osijo’s eye operation can be made to his Polaris Bank account at number 3010549863, with the account name Ade Osijo.
