The Integrity Group, a pressure group of disgruntled members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has been abandoned by a former governor of Gombe State and political ally of the governor of Rivers State, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
According to LEADERSHIP, Dankwambo was a prominent Wike Group member. The Wike Group has been at odds with the PDP’s national leadership and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s continued tenure as the party’s national chairman.
Members of the group announced their withdrawal from the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council unless their demand for Ayu’s removal was met.
However, to the surprise of many, the former governor of Gombe State attended the PDP presidential campaign rally in Gombe State on Monday afternoon with Atiku and other party veterans.
Dankwambo was seen from the Gombe Airport, where he welcomed party leaders to the state, to the rally site, where he also spoke to party members and supporters.
Later, Senator Dino Melaye, the Master of Ceremonies, made the announcement that Dankwambo gave 20 buses to the Atiku/Okowa Campaign in his home state of Gombe.
