According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the 3.5GHz spectrum that will be available in Abuja on December 19, 2022, is intended to boost competition by allowing both new licensees and existing ones to use it.
The spectrum would make it possible to offer fifth-generation (5G) services, which would help Nigeria’s plan for a digital economy.
In accordance with the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003 (the Act), available spectrum resources can be licensed in a variety of ways.
One of the most transparent methods for allocating Spectrum resources worldwide is auctioning spectrum licensing.
In response to requests for additional 3.5GHz band spectrum lots during the 2021 stakeholder engagement, the Commission had already cleared all obstacles in the remaining two lots.
Reuben Mouka, director of public affairs at the NCC, said in a statement that the Commission cleared the spectrum earlier than expected, making it available for licensing.
