In Ukraine, a military airfield and village outside of the city of Kherson acquired legendary status from the beginning of the war.
Caught by Russian powers not long after Russia’s full-scale attack in February, Chornobaivka was then more than once gone after by Ukrainian powers.
According to BBC News, It became one of the war’s most significant battlefields.
With the intention of bolstering troops in the south, Russian equipment was brought in via airlift.The initial goal was to advance to Mykolaiv and then Odesa along the southern coast of Ukraine.
Most importantly, Russian troops were able to avoid risky river crossings as they moved to the west thanks to the airbase at Chornobaivka.
However, occupying the base would be challenging. Two Russian generals were killed and Russian vehicles and helicopters were destroyed as Ukrainian forces targeted targets on occasion daily.
