Accountability Lab Nigeria, a global organization fighting corruption, has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the task of ensuring that candidates’ election expenses do not exceed the limits set by the Electoral Act 2022.
In essence, the new electoral act stipulates that a candidate’s maximum election expenses during a presidential election must not exceed N5 billion.
This was made public at the 2022 Integrity Icons by Friday Odeh, the country director of Accountability Lab Nigeria.
People who were rewarded worked in procurement, the justice system, and law enforcement.
They are Charles Enuma, Honest Ayabotu, Mohammed Babayola, Mwalin Abdu, and Victoria Barnabas.
He wondered why politicians would spend more on campaigns than the N5 billion limit set by INEC.
Odeh said: “Campaign funds have been tagged by INEC as N5 billion but you find out that people are donating and spending above N5 billion.
