In Abuja, a structure along the Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse 2, next to the 4U Supermarket, collapsed and killed one person.
Reportedly, the unfinished structure’s poor foundations caused it to cave in, which caused the collapse. In the course of the ongoing rescue effort, four people were saved alive and one suffered a fatal injury.
The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and some volunteers are working together to carry out the rescue operation.
When reached, Florence Wenegieme, acting director of FEMA, declined to comment on the incident and stated that she was on leave.
Recalling that a seven-story building fell last week in the Banana Island neighborhood of Lagos State, resulting in one reported fatality and multiple personnel at the scene being injured to varied degrees, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
