Owerri- The Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Imo state, Athan Achonu, stated on Wednesday that common citizens in the Imo North Senatorial district cannot support Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second term.
Achonu, who is from Imo North, informed Owerri news reporters of this in response to a story that several stakeholders had endorsed Uzodimma for Imo North through Emeka Ihejirika, his state’s media director.
According to him, there was a gathering of Uzodimma’s appointees and a few APC members who came together to support their party’s nominee for governor.
In his opinion, such sessions were not attended by the APC’s founding members, including Emeka Nwajiuba, a former minister of education.
The media representative for Achonu stated, “First of all, it is not a problem. is an assembly of APC members. They convened by calling one another. They are APC agents who are present in the area. Even not all of them who came can be seen if you look at them. I don’t think the current senator was there, and I don’t think Emeka Nwajiuba, the former minister of education, was present.
“How can they endorse when the major players in that zone are not there? What you saw were appointees of Uzodimma and APC operatives. They are the people that attended the event and carried out the endorsement. So, it cannot be Imo North. They are APC members.”
“It is normal for APC, people to come and endorse their governorship candidate that is what they did but the ordinary person from Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Obowo, Ihitte Uboma, Okigwe and Onuimo in Imo North can never endorse Hope Uzodimma, is it for what?” it is not possible,” he said.
