On a five count charge that includes kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm, Justice R. Harriman of a Delta state High court in Effurun, Uvwie local government area sentenced two, Mr. Theophilus Nwauchukwu and Mr. Emeka Christopher Okoli, to death by hanging.
According to Justice R. Harriman, the prosecution provided overwhelming evidence from which the verdict was drawn.
The defendants robbed Mr. Gabriel Adoghe and his wife at gunpoint, according to Mr. Adoghe and his wife, who served as the case’s primary complainants. and kept the husband trapped inside the vehicle booth.
However, according to the complainants, the robbers were stopped and taken into custody after colliding with some police officers at a checkpoint in the Aladja village.Three police officers gave testimony.
Theophilus Omenuwoma esq, the prosecutor’s attorney and assistant director in the ministry of justice, expressed delight with the verdict in a press conference and urged young people in the nation to abstain from crime.
He said, : ” the defendants were charged to court on five count charges bothering on count 1, Conspiracy that gave them 7 years imprisonment, count 2, Kidnapping, 10 years imprisonment, count 3/4 armed robbery, to die by Hanging while count 5, illegal possession which earned them ten years”.
