President Bola Tinubu’s recent choice of new service heads has been cited as evidence that he lacks ethnic or religious prejudice by the sociopolitical organization Yoruba Elite in Politics.
While applauding the president for distributing the appointment among the nation’s geopolitical regions, the group emphasized that Tinubu’s decision demonstrates his commitment to fighting crime and ensuring that peace prevails throughout the country.
On Monday, the President announced the retirement of each service leader and the appointment of their successors.
Oginni pointed out that the appointment demonstrated Tinubu’s genuine intentions for the nation and his willingness to lead everyone in them.
He said, “Tinubu had made a daring move toward national reconciliation. If you look at the background of the new service chiefs appointed by the president, you will discover that Tinubu is living up to the promise of giving us a better Nigeria.
“President Tinubu has promised to unite the country, and from this appointment, we can see that he is committed to proving everyone wrong that he is not a religious or ethnic bigot.
“This appointment is unequivocal evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s resolve to bring the nation together. He inherited a nation that was unprecedentedly divided. However, Mr. President so far has given Nigerians optimism that good things are on the horizon.”
As chief of army staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja was chosen. Kayode Egbetokun was named acting inspector general of police, and Adeniyi Adewale was named acting controller general of customs, all of which were commended by Oginni.
He urged the newly appointed service chiefs to assist the president in the fight “against terrorism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that have threatened the existence of the country.”
He further noted, “We know those appointed by the president are competent, but we are using this medium to urge the Yorubas among them to be dedicated and committed to serving the country.
“They should be able to prove to the world that they are really capable of bringing security to our dear nation. They need to be proactive in performing their primary responsibilities.”
