Beginning on Sunday, the island-bound lane of the Alaka-Costain-Iganmu segment of the Eko Bridge will be off-limits to drivers.
The closure was announced in a statement on Thursday in Lagos by the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha.
She explained that the reason for the closure was to do repairs on some of the bridge’s components that had been damaged.
“It should be noted that any further delay in the repairs and replacement of some of these bridge members could undermine the integrity and structural stability of the entire bridge and the consequence of this can be better imagined”
“This closure is to allow the contractor, Messrs Buildwell Plants and Equipment Industries Ltd., to carry out the necessary repairs with the aim of restoring the integrity of the bridge during the stipulated time frame,” she said.
However, she urged drivers to utilize alternate routes, such as the service lane heading to Iponri, particularly for those who were traveling the route from Western Avenue and its surroundings.
Recall that on July 8, 2023, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reopened the Eko Bridge, after which the Apongbon end of the bridge was shut down for a further 24 hours on Sunday, July 16, 2023.
