According to a statement made on Saturday, US President Joe Biden will host German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the White House on February 9 for discussions centered on Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
According to a statement from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the two presidents will reiterate “their resolute support for Ukraine’s defense of its land and its people against Russia’s war of aggression.”
The declaration coincides with the fact that funding for US assistance to Ukraine has run out because of resistance from Republicans in Congress, leaving the important US partner short on ammunition as its fight against Russia’s incursion approaches its third year.
After Donald Trump’s lobbying, Republicans have connected the Ukraine agreement to funding for border security at the US-Mexico border. The previous president who is most likely the Republican nominee to run for president in November.
Germany, the country’s second-largest arms supplier, has so far declined to provide Kyiv with the long-range missiles that Kiev so sorely needs.
Berlin is concerned that Ukraine may attack Russia with the missiles.
In addition, Biden and Scholz will talk about “their unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense, efforts to prevent regional escalation in the Middle East, and the imperative of increasing life-saving assistance and protection of civilians from harm in Gaza,” according to Jean-Pierre.
