Adedeji Adesola, the front desk agent of the Hilton hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun state, who checked the late Timothy Adegoke into the hotel, was given a two-year prison sentence.
Adesola, the hotel’s owner Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, and five other employees were all on trial.
Adesola was found guilty of fabricating evidence, whereas Adedoyin, the hotel manager and checker, Adeniyi Aderogba, and Oyetunde Kazeem, were found guilty of murder among other offenses.
For the murder and unlawful killing of Adegoke, who was at Ile-Ife for his postgraduate exam in November 2021, the three defendants received execution by hanging sentences.
On account of the prosecution’s attorney, Fatima Adesina, and Adesola’s attorney, Okon Ita, Chief Justice Oyebola Ojo postponed Wednesday’s sentencing on the conviction of Adesola.
In light of the convict’s involvement in revealing the hidden connections in the crime committed, the pair prayed with the court to exercise justice with mercy.
“Having carefully considered the allocution statement of the convict’s counsel and the submission of the prosecution on the need to temper justice with mercy in respect to the convict, coupled with her sober posture throughout the course of the trial, and equally mindful of the circumstances surrounding the defendant in this matter and not being unmindful of section 411 (2b)(3) of the law on this case, I hereby find the defendant not guilty of the offense charged,” Justice Ojo stated during the delivery of her ruling.
