Bandits reportedly assaulted Bello Matawalle’s hometown of Maradun in Zamfara state.
The bandits assaulted the community in the early hours of Friday, killing two people and kidnapping over 30 more.
The bandits assaulted the town about 2:00 a.m., shooting intermittently and ransacking residents’ homes for two hours.
The exact number of abducted people was unknown at press time, although it was estimated to be approximately 30, including women, children, and adults, considering the number of residences involved.
A traditional ruler, whose residence was plundered by bandits, voiced concern with the town’s high level of insecurity.
“I heard that the bandits burgled my palour’s I managed to hide behind a door leading to my inner room, while my wives and children fled to another route to hide elsewhere,” he explained.
The traditional ruler, who desired anonymity, voiced alarm about the town’s frequent attacks, noting that a similar attack occurred last Friday.
He urged the Minister of State for Defence, who is the immediate former governor of Zamfara State, to intervene in the security situation in his hometown to avert additional attacks.
