The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, emphasized the importance of national unity in addressing the challenges of banditry, terrorism, and other threats facing Nigeria. Speaking at the second edition of Unity Schools Old Students Association’s (USOSA) sports carnival in Abuja, General Musa called on all Nigerians, regardless of tribe or religion, to come together and confront these common enemies.
General Musa stressed the need for Nigerians to promote the nation’s diversity for development, highlighting that there are individuals who do not wish Nigeria well. He urged Nigerians to unite and shame these enemies by working together as a team to move the country forward.
Reflecting on the unifying power of sports, General Musa emphasized its role in fostering peace and promoting national unity. He encouraged Nigerians to embrace the values of discipline, resilience, and teamwork that sports instill, especially in the face of failures.
In alignment with General Musa’s message, Mr. Michael Magaji, President-General of USOSA, emphasized the importance of teamwork and excellence within Nigeria’s diverse society. He reiterated the vision of the founding fathers of unity schools in promoting Nigeria’s values and educational system.
The sports carnival, attended by over 3,000 old students from more than 55 unity colleges across the country, served as a platform to reignite unity in diversity. Through sports and collaborative efforts, participants aimed to integrate the ideals of unity schools for the common goal of nation-building.
As Nigeria grapples with various challenges, including security threats, the call for unity and collaboration becomes even more imperative. General Musa’s message underscores the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to stand together against adversity and work towards a brighter and more unified future.
