Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, has asked its citizens to join Nigerians in reaffirming their belief in democracy as the finest system of government.
“Governor Hope Uzodimma acknowledged that democracy might not have solved all the challenges facing the country,” reads a statement from the Special Adviser on New and Electronic Media, Nnaemeka Okafor. He does, however, acknowledge that “a lot of milestones have been made since the advent of this democratic dispensation in 1999.”
The governor expressed delight over the significant advancements made in Imo State under democratic governance, particularly since January 2020.
In light of the flaws in the system, he consequently urged the people of Imo to recommit themselves to preserving and advancing democracy.
He promised that democracy will always be preferred to other forms of governance since it is built on the freedoms of expression, assembly, and association.
He wished the people of Imo a great Democracy Day and promised to always make democracy benefits available to them within his means.
