Due to the criminal operations of kidnappers who besiege the route, the security situation on the Enugu Expressway and the Idodo border axis of Ebonyi has gotten worse.
Many users of the route have been compelled to postpone their travels due to this development.
Travel to and from Ebonyi State has become impossible due to the worsening circumstances.
The kidnappers “can rest for hours or even days, but strike within a second without notice,” according to a source who begged to remain anonymous.
Nicholas Nworie, a businessman from Ebonyi, told the Daily Post that the recent wave of kidnappings on the road caused him to postpone a crucial meeting in Enugu over the weekend.
“I had to postpone my crucial meeting in Enugu today due to the kidnapping incidents,” he stated. In addition to me, numerous others canceled the trip, which is a really bad thing.
“I have made every effort to bring the issue to the notice of the government, but it appears that neither the Enugu nor the Ebonyi administrations are concerned about the occurrence.
“This morning, my sister called to inform me that a few days earlier, at 5 p.m., her husband’s closest friend was shot by thugs while traveling to Abakaliki. He got out of his car, wounded by a bullet. For the crisis to be stopped, immediate action is required.
“Someone in my street just came back from Enugu this afternoon and said that though they crossed safely, everyone inside their vehicle started praying as they approached Idodo,” said the source, who also mentioned how dangerous it had gotten to travel along the extremely congested road.
He observed that the kidnappers might even operate during the day and were quite erratic.
“On Tuesday, someone was taken hostage. On Thursday, they managed to get his release. They abducted him before 3 p.m. They (the kidnappers) worked in the evening of the same day, but the route was empty as a motorist who managed to escape warned people traveling from Enugu.
“Those from Abakaliki parked when they noticed that no vehicle was approaching from Enugu. After being notified, security personnel cleared the route. All of these occurred between 2 and 4 p.m., rather than very early or late in the evening, he explained.
