In October 2018, video clips reportedly recorded by a spy camera were published by an online medium Daily Nigerian showing the governor receiving wads of dollar notes in what appears to be bribe payments from contractors. Ganduje appeared to be taking kickbacks from contractors working in the state in a series of secretly recorded videos. The governor claimed that the videos were altered and attributed it to those who were intent on causing trouble and tarnishing his reputation. He also threatened a legal suit against the publisher of Daily Nigerian, the journalist that released the video clips.
Ganduje filed a defamation lawsuit against Daily Nigerian publisher Jaafar Jaafar in November 2018 regarding the publication of the bribery videos. He withdrew the case saying he intends to file at a later time but all efforts to clear his name have made it obvious that he was truly involved in the bribery as the video showed. When Ganduje realized the law would not bend to his corrupt needs, he resorted to threatening journalist Jaafar Jaafar who had to run from Kano where he was residing at the time when the videos were released as Ganduje has trails on him and this continued till the publisher had no choice but to run with his family abroad.
The Kano Governor has however been seen and heard several times vehemently speaking against political corrupt practices. The very same corrupt practice Nigerians have witnessed him exhibiting and which the relevant authorities kept mum about.
The fact that he is a member of the ruling party did nothing to help matters too and Nigerians that expected the sitting governor to be probed were disappointed as Ganduje is still the sitting governor of Kano state, eating away at their resources and the ruling party is back, asking that Nigerians give them another term, maybe to put even more corrupt governors in power and completely bring Nigeria to ruins?
