Super Eagles goalie Stanley Nwabali was received by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Friday, February 16, in response to his performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
The governor gave Nwabali a N20 million prize during the event and said he will receive the Rivers State Distinguished Service Star as a token of appreciation.
Fubara commended Nwabali, who was born in Rivers, for his outstanding performance at the recently finished 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition in Ivory Coast.
Fubara remarked, “I would like to extend my congratulations to you, our brother Stanley Nwabali, and our amazing team along with the great and wonderful people of Rivers State.” About four months after you won a local trophy, we are back here, You’ve brought a national trophy with you today.
So, when people say or talk behind to ask what we are doing, we are achieving those things that are not, maybe, seen physically but they give joy and fulfilment.
“If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance, administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best.”
The governor exhorted the people of Rivers to keep doing deliberate good deeds that advance the state and draw attention.
Christopher Green, the commissioner of sports for the state of Rivers, praised Fubara for his encouragement, which inspired the Rivers Hoopers basketball team to win the National League title.
Speaking as well, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, a former Super Eagles player and Commissioner for Justice, acknowledged the importance of sports development in the state and praised Fubara’s determined leadership.
