The Kano State Government has reunited 76 minors, apprehended during the recent #EndBadGovernanceProtest, with their families. Governor Abba Yusuf presided over the handover ceremony on Monday, pledging his administration’s commitment to youth rehabilitation and societal harmony.
The minors were reportedly detained for their involvement in the protests that called for better governance and accountability in Nigeria.
“These young ones are victims of societal neglect and poor governance. Instead of punishing them, we must ensure they receive the care and guidance needed to become responsible citizens.”
The minors have undergone preliminary counseling sessions and were handed over to their parents with a warning against future unlawful activities.
A Call for Dialogue
Governor Yusuf also urged the youth to engage in constructive dialogue rather than violence, emphasizing that protests should remain peaceful and productive. He assured them that his government would create opportunities to address their grievances through employment and education initiatives.
Community Response
Parents and guardians expressed gratitude for the release of their children. A father, Mallam Ibrahim, remarked:
“We are thankful to the government for this gesture. We will work to ensure our children stay on the right path.”
Moving Forward
This development highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of youth unrest, including unemployment, lack of education, and systemic inequality. Governor Yusuf’s approach underscores the need for collaboration between government and citizens to build a better future for Nigeria.
