The release of Mr. Philip Aivoji, the state party chairman who was abducted, has been confirmed by Alhaji Hakeem Amode, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) spokesman for Lagos State.
After spending four days with the kidnappers, Amode, the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos via message on Monday that Aivoji had been freed.
“We take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers and to express our appreciation for your concerns,” Amode stated.
On Thursday, Aivoji was abducted near Ogun’s Ogere neighborhood on the Ibadan–Lagos road.
On Thursday, the party chairman was on his way back from the PDP South-West zonal meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
His family had previously been contacted by the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of N200 million, but Amode would not confirm whether or not there was any payment before his release.
The party thanked security agencies and government authorities that facilitated his freedom.
