In a significant enforcement move, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, known as the Lagos State Taskforce, confiscated 70 vehicles on Monday due to traffic law violations. The Director of Public Affairs for the taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, revealed that the vehicles were seized for flouting the Lagos State traffic regulations.
The operation targeted specific locations notorious for reckless driving, which frequently leads to traffic congestion. Areas of focus included Okuta Road Junction in Bariga, Oba Akran Road in Ikeja, and Ladipo by Five Star along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.
Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele emphasized that traffic issues stem from human actions, not natural causes, attributing gridlock to driver recklessness. Akerele urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, stressing that compliance will foster environmental order, safety, and public well-being.
This initiative comes amid ongoing efforts to maintain order on Lagos roads, with the taskforce pledging zero tolerance for traffic and environmental law violations.
