Man sells five-year-old child to Rivers couple
Promise Thompson was found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery and was sentenced to death by hanging by a Port Harcourt High Court.
A three-count of armed robbery, kidnapping, and child theft was brought against Thompson and his conspirator, Beatrice Ogbunka.
They were charged with murdering Chidiebere Ogbugu and kidnapping his 5-year-old child.
According to reports, the event happened on October 25, 2018, in Rumuolumeni, Rivers State’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Ogbunka, however, is alleged to have escaped when the police granted her bail.
The prosecution counsel demonstrated that Thompson brought the baby to Abia State and sold him to a syndicate, which in turn sold the youngster to another syndicate, according to the ruling of the presiding judge, Judge Sika Henry-Aprioku.
In addition, Chisom Lucky received a seven-year prison term from Justice Henry-Aprioku, while her husband, Lucky, received a ten-year sentence for kidnapping after purchasing the boy from Thompson and later selling him.
