Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has commended the UK Visa Application Centre in Enugu for its efficient services, encouraging residents from the South East and South-South regions to take advantage of this accessible facility. During his visit, the governor highlighted the significance of this centre, which eliminates the need for travelers to go to Lagos or Abuja for UK visa applications.
Governor Mbah also used the occasion to call on other foreign missions, including the United States and China, to establish similar consular services in Enugu. He emphasized the region’s large, entrepreneurial population, noting that the South East is a hub of frequent business travelers who would benefit from localized visa services.
“Enugu is a central location with a rich history as the former regional capital of both the South East and South South regions,” Mbah said. He underscored the state’s potential for attracting consular offices, given the region’s dense population of over 27 million people within 30,000 square kilometers.
The establishment of the UK Visa Application Centre in Enugu in September 2023 marks a step toward providing better access to international travel services for people in the region. Governor Mbah believes this should serve as a model for other foreign missions looking to expand their presence in the South East and South-South regions.
