Former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes the club must win the Premier League title in order to be remembered.
Last season, Mikel Arteta’s men came close to winning it after topping the standings for nearly 240 days.
However, due to injuries and a loss of form, Arsenal was overtaken by Manchester City, who went on to clinch a historic Treble.
Merson has now challenged his old teammates to go one step further this season.
“It’s fine to have a good young team that is constantly impressing,” he told Sky Sports, “but you have to win something.” Unless they do, this squad will be forgotten. Nobody mentions teams that do not win leagues. It’s harsh, but it’s the truth.
“I feel sorry for the Gunners because they are a poor team are up against the juggernaut that is Manchester City.”
