Ondo youths protest kidnap of community residents
On Friday, youths from the Uso Village in Ondo State’s Owo Local Government Area came to the streets to protest the bandits’ abduction of two locals.
According to information obtained, the victims were abducted near the Akure-Owo Expressway and carried into the forest.
Three people were reportedly kidnapped at first, but one managed to escape, according to a source.
It was claimed that the incident incensed the neighbourhood’s adolescents, who organized the protest along the expressway.
The protesters blocked the busy expressway, causing traffic gridlock for several hours.
The police made numerous attempts to appease them, but they were unsuccessful since they insisted on blocking the road.
The police, however, were reported to have been effective in dispersing the demonstrators.
When reached, Ms Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the victims’ kidnapping and stated command members had leapt into action to assure their rescue.
The PPRO said, “Our men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad have been on the trail of the bandits to ensure the victims were rescued
On the protest, however, Odunlami said normalcy had returned to the area as the expressway had been cleared for the free flow of vehicles.
