Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Edo State Chapter, must be released immediately and without conditions, according to party demands.
Aziegbemi was reportedly kidnapped on Friday night by a group of armed people close to his house in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
It was stated that his kidnappers followed him, following two Toyota Corollas, and around eleven o’clock at night they stopped his car on Odaro Street, close to his home.
In a statement released on Saturday by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, the party expressed concerns about Aziegbemi’s kidnapping and connected it to the Federal Government, which is controlled by the All Progressives Congress, failing to protect the safety and well-being of Nigerians as mandated by Section 14 (2)(b) of the Constitution.
“Our party is distressed by the alarming spate of abduction of helpless Nigerians in various parts of the country,” the statement said in part. “They kidnapped about 286 schoolchildren in Kaduna State and others in Sokoto State, and they are still being held in horrific and traumatizing conditions in their abductor’s den.”
The fact that the APC government keeps making untrue claims while leaving Nigerians vulnerable to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and marauders without making a commensurate, real effort to stop the heinous crimes is heartbreaking.

The declaration calls for a slack approach to security by immediately overhauling our national security framework, particularly in the areas of intelligence collection, security command, and control coordination. This will ensure that citizens’ safety is not only proactively guaranteed, but also that rescue operations will be carried out quickly and effectively.
