The Gombe State Police Command reports that its officers have killed a suspected armed robber in a gunfight, detained three others, and wounded six others who managed to flee.
This was mentioned in a statement released on Friday in Gombe by ASP Mahid Abubakar, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer.
Abubakar claimed that residents of Gombe city, particularly those in the Arawa, Malam inna, and Nayi-nawa neighborhoods, had been terrorized by the infamous 10-man gang of armed robbers.
On June 24, he claimed, the alleged robbers broke into Alhaji Gidado Sani’s apartment at Arawa Quarters, shooting erratically, and robbing them of their goods.
According to a police spokeswoman, Mohammed Abdullahi, Sani’s security guard, was hurt on his head, left hand, and back during the heist.
He said that Mr. Oqua Etim, the state’s commissioner of police, dispatched the tactical squad of “Operation 999” to the area after receiving a distress call through the command’s control room.
“The operatives swiftly responded but on sighting them, the armed robbers engaged them in a gun duel,” he said.
Abubakar added that one of the murderous robbers of the Kumbiya Kumbiya quarters was neutralized during the procedure, adding that three people were captured and six others were on the run with possible gunshot wounds.
He claimed that some of the things the suspects had taken from their victims had been found, and he added that more was being done to catch the eluding suspects.
Abubakar reaffirmed the command’s commitment to purging the state of criminals while assuring the populace that it would keep responding to distress calls.
“The command is using this medium to appreciate the support and cooperation of the good people of the state, while urging them to do more in reporting crimes and criminals,” he said.
