This statement was made during the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Lagos, where the President reiterated his commitment to driving economic reforms that benefit the Nigerian populace.
The President’s remarks came amidst growing speculation about the 2027 elections, with several APC leaders, including former National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, ex-Governor of Ogun State Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, openly expressing their support for Tinubu’s re-election. Other key figures, such as Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State’s Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, also endorsed Tinubu’s leadership and voiced their optimism for APC’s success in 2027.
The assembly, which took place on Saturday in Victoria Island, Lagos, saw the convergence of key stakeholders from the southwest, including senators, members of the House of Representatives, state legislators, and top party officials. The event, hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu, who serves as the Zonal Coordinator of the APC, was the first of its kind since Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.
Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, in delivering the keynote address, lauded President Tinubu as a “listening leader” with a determined vision for Nigeria’s future. He highlighted Tinubu’s readiness to take decisive actions necessary to address the nation’s pressing economic issues. Tinubu, represented at the assembly by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to driving genuine progress for all Nigerians. He urged citizens to remain patient as his government implements the necessary reforms to improve the country’s economic standing.
While the support for Tinubu’s potential re-election was evident, the President made it clear that his immediate concern lies in making substantial and long-lasting economic changes that will uplift Nigeria. His administration’s agenda revolves around economic diversification, addressing inflation, and implementing policies that promote growth across key sectors. His call for patience reflects his administration’s determination to create a sustainable pathway toward national recovery.
The assembly also tackled other vital issues, particularly the continued development of the APC in the South-West zone, which remains a crucial region for the party’s dominance in national politics.
Tinubu’s leadership style, coupled with his strategic focus on economic restructuring, resonates with his broader vision for Nigeria’s future. His administration continues to roll out policies aimed at strengthening the economy, with a special focus on sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and industrialization.
