President Bola Tinubu is taking decisive action to address the pressing issues of hunger and poverty in Nigeria, demonstrating his commitment to improving the living conditions of all citizens. In response to growing concerns about food insecurity, President Tinubu has launched several initiatives aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian has access to sufficient and affordable food.
Speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye emphasized the critical importance of President Tinubu’s efforts. Oyintiloye highlighted the severe food insecurity affecting many households, with some struggling to afford three square meals a day due to the challenging economic conditions.
Recognizing the United Nations’ prediction that 82 million Nigerians, or approximately 64% of the population, could face hunger by 2030, President Tinubu is committed to reversing this trend. Recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics showing a record high food inflation rate of 40.66% in May underscores the urgency of his initiatives.
President Tinubu’s administration is actively working to stabilize food prices and make essential items like rice, beans, garri, and spaghetti affordable for all Nigerians. Despite the economic challenges, his various intervention programs are designed to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions.
Addressing past issues of corruption and the over-reliance on crude oil revenue, President Tinubu is focused on creating a more productive and self-sufficient economy. His policies aim to boost agricultural productivity, enhance digital innovation, and foster a business-friendly environment that supports startups and promotes economic growth.
His administration is implementing price control mechanisms to prevent exploitative practices by traders and ensure fair pricing for consumers.
Additionally, the President is considering reopening the Benin Republic border to facilitate food imports and alleviate the food crisis. He is also addressing issues related to inadequate farm inputs and insecurity, ensuring that farmers can cultivate their land safely and effectively. By providing incentives for young people to enter agriculture, President Tinubu is working to create a sustainable and prosperous future for Nigeria.
Oyintiloye expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to support the President’s efforts. He emphasized that with strengthened economic intervention programs, the country will overcome its current challenges and thrive.
President Tinubu’s bold initiatives and unwavering commitment to addressing hunger and poverty demonstrate his dedication to building a better Nigeria. His leadership is paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future, ensuring that all Nigerians have access to the opportunities and resources they need to succeed.
