Beginning on March 1, Russia will not export gasoline for six months in order to meet the increased demand from consumers and farmers and to accommodate scheduled refinery repairs.
In an effort to address high local prices and shortages, Russia previously enforced a similar restriction from September to November 2023, from which only four former Soviet states—Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan—were spared.
On Tuesday, February 27, Russian Prime Minister Alexander Novak’s spokesman announced the new restriction.
An internal communication from Novak to Mishustin was cited by RBC as saying, “Measures are needed to help stabilize domestic prices in order to offset the booming demand for petroleum products.”
The member states of this new gasoline export prohibition will not be affected by it, the Eurasian Economic Union, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and two Russian-backed breakaway regions of Georgia – South Ossetia and Abkhazia
