If President Bola Tinubu’s administration adopts the proposed 114 percent wage increase for elected office holders in the nation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, or SERAP, has pledged to take legal action.
SERAP threatened to sue the Nigerian government over the N24 billion approved by the government to be spent on housing the members of the 10th National Assembly and urged President Tinubu to immediately reject the outrageous salary increases proposed for elected public office holders.
The salaries of judges, public officials, and politicians will increase by 114%, according to Muhammad Shehu, chairman of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission.
Additionally, the Nigerian government approved spending N5.87 billion annually on housing benefits for the 10th National Assembly members.
Thus, with an annual budget of N5.87 billion, the Federal Government will spend N23.48 billion on MPs’ lodging in four years.
