The PTECSSAN, Nigeria’s Senior Staff Association for Private Telecommunications and Communications, has vowed to go on an indefinite strike on April 4.
This was announced by the union on Tuesday in a statement that was signed by Okonu Abdullahi, the general secretary.
According to him, the union decided to go on strike in response to purported unresolved disputes with subcontractors connected to Huawei Technologies Nigeria Ltd.
He claimed that the corporations’ refusal to make themselves available for conciliatory sessions rendered the union’s and the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s attempts to address its issues ineffective.
“With this in mind, the union’s leadership instructed its members to start an indefinite strike on April 4th.
“We beg Nigerians to please with us throughout the strike and whatever inconvenience it would cause them,” he remarked.
Abdullahi went on to say that among the concerns that must be implemented immediately is the recognition of employees’ fundamental freedom to freely associate with a union.
According to him, the regularization of union members’ employment on Huawei projects and the prompt reimbursement of membership dues into the union’s account are the other concerns.
He stated that the union’s participation in the collective bargaining agreement’s drafting is crucial for the benefit of all parties involved, including union members.
In addition, he pledged to protect “the integrity of the territory and national independence, and to scrupulously observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws” and spare no effort to achieve African unity”. The formal handover of power with outgoing President Macky Sall will take place at the presidential palace in Dakar.
