At the conclusion of meetings in Beijing on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that China and the United States concurred on the need to stabilize their tumultuous relations.
The greatest approach to responsibly manage our differences and make sure that competition doesn’t degenerate into conflict, according to Blinken, is through direct engagement and consistent communication at top levels.
“But China had continued to refuse to set up channels for crisis communication and military contacts, something we urged several times during talks.
“And at this moment, China has not agreed to move forward with that,” Blinken said.
Blinken met with President Xi Jinping during his two-day tour, and he also spoke with top foreign policy officials Wang Yi and Qin Gang.
