The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has urged Nigerians to trust the members of the Armed Forces, stating that their loyalty to protecting the democratic system of government and the security of lives and property should not be doubted.
Gen. Musa made this statement at the closing ceremony of the Chief of Defence Staff Conference for Joint Task Force Commanders in Abuja. He emphasized that the military exists to serve the people of Nigeria and is working tirelessly to restore peace in the country. The General also expressed his condolences for the 17 military personnel who were recently killed on a peacekeeping mission in Delta State.
He assured Nigerians that the military is doing everything in its power to make the country safe and secure. Gen. Musa further stated that the military is collaborating with the National Orientation Agency and other relevant stakeholders to change the perception of the citizens about the military. He stressed that the military needs the support of the citizens to succeed in its mission.
In conclusion, he advised commanders to foster a culture of partnership and synergy among security forces and to explore other avenues of funding for their operations, in addition to relying solely on international donors.
