In a move set to redefine Nigeria’s energy landscape, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has unveiled the Presidential CNG Initiative’s (Pi-CNG) Conversion Incentive Programme, targeting the rideshare sector. This pioneering initiative, spearheaded by NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, also introduces the innovative MY-CNG App to facilitate the transition.
The launch event, held at NASENI’s Compressed Natural Gas Engineering, Training, and Conversion facility in Utako, Abuja, underscores the agency’s commitment to driving technological advancements that align with Nigeria’s energy goals. Khalil Suleiman Halilu emphasized the critical role of the Pi-CNG initiative in the nation’s ongoing gas revolution, describing it as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s energy future.
“Just over two months ago, we inaugurated this comprehensive CNG facility in collaboration with Portland and Dana Motors,” Khalil noted. “This partnership is integral to NASENI’s mission to fast-track the development of market-ready solutions that not only reduce living costs but also enhance quality of life. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Conversion Incentive Programme offers a significant 50 percent discount to rideshare drivers, including those with Uber and Bolt, who register and utilize the newly launched MY-CNG App. This incentive aims to make compressed natural gas (CNG) a more accessible and cost-effective fuel alternative for vehicles, with the potential to slash transportation expenses by up to 70 percent and deliver a 40 percent savings for car owners.
“Given the current economic climate, this initiative provides a practical solution to help lower living costs for Nigerians,” Khalil stated. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made these achievements possible, expressing gratitude to partners Pi-CNG, Portland, and Dana Motors for their unwavering commitment.
“Together, we are poised to transform Nigeria’s energy and transportation sectors,” Khalil declared.
This launch represents a pivotal moment for Nigeria, offering sustainable solutions to the nation’s energy challenges and paving the way for a cleaner, more affordable transportation future. As the country navigates its economic hurdles, NASENI’s initiatives stand out as beacons of innovation and progress.
